The community of Sydney, Australia is mourning the death of John Berne, a beloved former rugby league premiership player and Wallaby who passed away on Monday at the age of 72.
Born in Ireland, John migrated to Australia with his family at the age of seven. He attended Marist Brothers Pagewood, where he discovered his passion for rugby league. A naturally gifted athlete, Berne went on to enjoy an outstanding sporting career, representing the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Sydney Roosters, and Cronulla Sharks. His exceptional talent also earned him selection as a Wallaby, making him one of the rare athletes to represent Australia at the highest level.
